India holds an important place in the global education industry and readily welcomes young minds from around the world to attain higher education in top-level institutes. All that the students need to do is meet the eligibility criteria set by each institute and they can easily begin their learning journey. Entry Level Eligibility
Indian higher education is broadly divided into four program levels,
Also known as the Bachelor’s degree, undergraduate courses take 3-5 years to complete. In the case of streams such as science, commerce and arts, a student will be conferred with a Bachelor’s degree after three years of education. On the other hand, for professional streams such as pharmacy, engineering or architecture, the Bachelor’s degree is conferred to the student after four or five years of education respectively. Please take note that the minimum requirement for students to take up an undergraduate course is 10+2 years of schooling.
Also known as the Master’s degree, students can opt for a postgraduate course in India only after completing a Bachelor’s degree. In a postgraduate course, the students get exposed to an in-depth study of the subject of their choice. The duration of postgraduate courses offered by Indian universities and colleges generally ranges between 1-2 years.
Students who want to step into the world of research and wish to explore a subject/course in-depth, can opt for Doctoral Studies. Doctorate (PhD courses) degrees involve deep research or thesis work that can be completed over a span of 3-6 years. Please note the minimum requirement for opting for a PhD course is a post-graduate degree.
The diploma courses are for students who want to pursue short-term regular or niche courses. The minimum requirement for taking up such courses is 10+2 years of schooling. Diploma or Certificate-based courses are provided across many disciplines such as Buddhist Studies, Yoga & Naturopathy, Indian Dance & Music, Indian Cuisines, computers, etc and their duration differs from institute to institute.
